At PCS Yuma, we strive to create a comprehensive resource that makes the Permanent Change of Station process easier.
Our mission is to provide a space where service members and their families can learn about the Yuma community and the resources available as they transition to MCAS Yuma and YPG.
Founded in 1914, Yuma is situated in the southwestern part of Arizona next to California and Mexico, exactly 178 miles from San Diego and Phoenix (very convenient!). The county has become one of the fastest growing in the U.S. year after year and is known as the "Sunniest City on Earth," according to Guinness World Records.
During the winter months (October-March), many retirees from Northern states and Canada come to Yuma, causing the population to almost double (ugh! The traffic!). The lower cost of living, affordability of housing, and the beautiful winter weather make Yuma an ideal place to live.
The three most prominent industries in the Yuma economy are agriculture, military, and tourism. In addition to being the Sunniest City on Earth, Yuma County is the Winter Lettuce Capital of the World (you're welcome, salad lovers!). Yuma is also home to Arizona Western Community College and satellite locations for the state’s three universities (ASU, NAU, and U of A).
We know that you'll find plenty of reasons to fall in love with Yuma!
Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Yuma- MCAS Yuma is the Marine Corps' busiest aviation training base and one of the largest employers in Yuma County. The air station is home to a number of tenant units, including Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron 1 (MAWTS-1), Marine Operational Test and Evaluation Squadron 1 (VMX-1), Marine Aircraft Group 13 (MAG-13), Marine Air Control Squadron 1 (MACS-1), Marine Fighter Training Squadron 401 (VMFT-401), and Combat Logistics Company 16 (CLC-16). MCAS Yuma shares airfield facilities with Yuma International Airport and occupies about 3,000 acres.

Yuma Proving Grounds (YPG)- YPG is one of the widest military bases in the world with restricted airspace of over 2,000 sq. miles and one of Yuma County's major employers. Part of the U.S. Army Test and Evaluation Command, the US Army has the chance to test some of the most sophisticated weapons here, including specialized equipment from around the globe. In 2009, General Motors opened a hot-weather test track complex in YPG and today tests most vehicles manufactured by the firm.
